Statement: Israel's Parliament Installs New Government
06/13/21: Israel's Knesset (Parliament) approved the new "change" coalition to be headed by now Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Alternate Prime Minister Yair Lapid.
"Bennett and Lapid have successfully formed a government with one of the most diverse coalitions in Israel's history", said Avi Benlolo. The coalition reflects nearly all sectors of Israeli society, including from the Arab community. "While time will tell, this might be helpful given the tension within Israel between these communities. It can also serve to deflate accusations that Israel practices "apartheid", Benlolo added.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu leaves behind an impressive legacy. He has kept Israel safe and secure and by and large, away from major conflicts. His diplomacy around the world has been second to none as he has strengthened Israel's ties globally, opened more diplomatic missions and orchestrated the Abraham Accords along with Israel's partners. Netanyahu also put Israel on the map ahead of all other nations in providing Covid-19 relief. The global Jewish community thanks Mr. Netanyahu for his unwavering dedication to Israel.
President Joe Biden said: "I look forward to working with Israeli Prime Minster Bennett...Israel has no better friend than the United States...(which) remains unwavering in its support of Israel's security. My administration is fully committed to working with the new Israeli government to advance security, stability and peace...".
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said: “On behalf of the Government of Canada, I congratulate Prime Minister Bennett and Alternate Prime Minister Lapid on the formation of a new Israeli government....Canada and Israel are close friends bound together by shared democratic values, a long history of cooperation, and vibrant people-to-people ties".
Israel is a beacon of freedom and democracy. The new government will have many challenges including much needed political stability. Congratulations to the people of Israel.
