Statement on Canada's Designation of Islamist and Neo-Nazi Groups as Terrorist Organizations

02/03/21: Canada has taken an important step to designate 13 groups as terrorist entities adding to an already robust list of groups that could potentially bring harm to our nation. Along with the Proud Boys, the Atomwaffen Division, and the Base, Canadian intelligence authorities have focused attention on the dangers of white nationalist neo-Nazi groups.
Alongside these dangerous groups are three Al-Qaeda entities including Jama'at Nusrat Al-Islam Wal-Muslimin and five ISIS related affiliates including the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara, Islamic State in Libya , East Asia and Bangladesh.
"I commend Public Safety Minister Bill Blair and our intelligence agencies for his steadfast focus on keeping Canada safe from dangerous elements in our midst. Mr. Blair has played a long and positive role in combating hate and intolerance in our nation".
"The fact that Canadian authorities have moved to marginalize these groups indicates that they are operating on Canadian soil. This is cause for concern and alarm. Just yesterday, I released a photograph of disturbing antisemitic graffiti on a storefront in London Ontario. The world is becoming less safe and requires our government and policing to act resolutely to counter dangerous groups".
At the same time, lets ensure that authorities also recognize dangers posed by far left groups primarily operating on university campuses who have been victimizing Jewish students and faculty. Hate groups in Canada are prolific with some still being allowed to radicalize on our campuses, taking away from our national interest of respect, tolerance and diversity.
